Neighbors see casino driving up land value
All I can say is best wishes and good luck. I think people are being overly optimistic about the casino's impact on the surrounding area. I go to the casino in Lawrenceburg and while a few businesses (hotels and restaurants) have sprouted, the road leading into (and out of) Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg has not changed much. People are forgetting that the casino itself is going to build a hotel and have restaurants. Most people are going to drive directly into the Casino's parking garage when they come to the area and leave the parking garage and go straight home. The casino will be the destination, not the area surrounding it. Outside of the areas immediately adjacent to the casino, I don't think it will revitalize the area at all.
I'm sick of hearing everyone bash the West side. Its not a bad area people! The West Broad corridor project was already in the works so it will be beautified and I do believe businesses along W. Broad WILL increase and improve. A little paving and landscaping goes a long way. Yes, Shannon Way/Lincoln Park is not the greatest but Broad St from Phillipi/Georgesville Rd to New Rome is a great area and I do believe this stretch of Broad will definately benefit from the new development. Time will tell. In my opinion, the EAST side is by far the most vile and disgusting section of Columbus with shootings and killings every day in the news. You don't hear about West side shootings on the news on a regular basis. And I should know, because I live there.

I disagree. There is room for more than Penn National, If the area can be reformed, into a clean, femmes moncler, safe, entertainment district, there will be opportunities for other restaurants and retail. If the west side is so great, why is it referred to as "THE BOTTOMS?" When I moved to central Ohio, people told me that the west side had a lot of poorly educated refugees from Appalachia. That doesn't sound like prime real estate to me. What a bunch of dopes.
If the casino happens to "draw in the undesirables" they'll fit right in around "THE BOTTOMS." The casino will also have plently of poorly educated and low wage employees to select from the local population. Why? There are many refugees from Appalachia on the west side of Columbus. Truth be told, the coal miner's daughter might be able to get a job as a cocktail waitress if she can just get her teeth fixed. Moreover, a guy that escaped from a deliverence community in West Virginia might even be able to obtain a job with a casino band; if he just learned that every song isn't supposed to include dueling banjos.

Not all of the West Side is considered "The Bottoms". The Bottoms is the "near" westside, closest to the Downtown area. I believe it is past Central Ave. that it becomes the Hilltop. The west side as a whole is not a bad area. There is good and bad. The area in which the Casino is going is closer to the good than the bad.
